Ready for orders: Blanket Probe. |
%20for%208in%20CS%20pipe%20(Rev%201).jpg) |
Owners of Ferroscope 16 channel systems will be
pleased to know that we are ready to take orders for the Blanket
Probe.
The Blanket Probe contains 256 sensors in a flexible, rugged,
waterproof polyurethane blanket that works with the Ferroscope
to detect CUI (Corrosion under insulation) and internal pitting
on steel pipe.
It competes directly with INCOTEST and LIXI gamma gauge for
detection of CUI, and blows away RADIOGRAPHY both in terms of
ease of set-up, speed of acquisition and radiation safety.

Russell NDE Systems Inc.
has been honored by Frost & Sullivan with its "2011 Global
Product Leadership Award for Remote Field Testing"

Quote from President Dave
Russell: It is great to be recognized by an independent, highly
reputable, firm like Frost & Sullivan for the hard work of the
R&D, manufacturing, Sales and Support teams at Russell. We have
always known that our RFT instruments (FerroScope,
VertiScan,
I-PIT,
E-PIT,
See
Snake, HydraSnake and TT) were "best in class"; but this
award shows that our customers think so too. We are grateful to
Frost & Sullivan and their analyst Nikhil Jain for selecting
Russell for this prestigious award. |

April 2011 - Russell NDE
purchases See Snakes from PipeScope Inc., and takes over their
business of inspecting oil and gas lines. |
Russell NDE Systems Inc. (RNDE)
is pleased to announce that it has acquired all of the in-line
inspection tool assets of PipeScope Inc.,(former licensee of
RNDE’s for western Canada oil and gas pipeline inspection
services).
RNDE will immediately begin to market in-line inspection
services to oil and gas pipeline owners in Canada and
internationally.
“This is a strategic move for RNDE as we consolidate our
pipeline condition analysis services for the O&G marketplace. We
have added See Snake Tools in 3”, 4” and 6” sizes to our Tool
inventory as well as a large compressor (used to push the Tools
into the pipes) and a Tracked Skid Steer unit, equipped with an
Amsteel Rope winch, (used to retrieve the Tools at constant
speed). We will now have the capability to offer inspection of
unlined oil and gas pipelines which complements the services
that we have been offering for lined pipelines” Company
President, Dave Russell said.
“This move comes at a time when RNDE has just been awarded a
“best in class” award for its equipment that uses RFT technology
by the prestigious Frost and Sullivan Group, and its subsidiary,
PICA Corp. is moving towards dominance of the pipeline condition
analysis business for water and wastewater networks”

April 2010 - NRC-IRAP
projects, key to technology success:
|
 |
PICA (Russell NDE) would like to
acknowledge the invaluable assistance that the Canadian National Research Centre
and its Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) have provided to the firm.
As early as the late 1980’s Russell NDE Systems (then Russell Technologies)
partnered with NRC to develop the key technologies that underlie the modern
in-line inspection Tools that Russell now makes, and PICA now uses. This
assistance has led to the completion of dozens of small to medium development
projects with almost 100% success rate. Products such as the Radalarm, Radiation
Dosemeter, Ferroscope, I-PIT, E-PIT, WellCAT, HydroScope and See Snake Tools
would not have been possible without NRC’s participation.

April 2010 - News item
regarding inspection of U.S. gas pipelines: |
The US regulator of pipelines, PHMSA, has
finalized the rules relating to gas distribution mains. The link takes you to
the final version of the document 49 CFR part 192
http://primis.phmsa.dot.gov/dimp/docs/DIMPFINALRULE.PDF
This should bode well for Russell because many gas distribution mains cannot be
inspected by MFL Tools.

Tools are ideal for inspection of pipelines with low flow, internal liners and
scale |

incorporates a new subsidiary for water and waste water pipeline
inspections
|
 |
|
|
PICA: Pipeline Inspection and Condition
Analysis Corporation has been incorporated in Canada and the USA.
PICA (pronounced peeka has several meanings, one of which is a very small
measurement … just like the fine resolution measurements made by our See Snake
and Hydroscope Tools).
PICA will have a busy year performing inspections of water and waste water mains
for cities such as Calgary, Milwaukee, Virginia Beach, Ottawa, Quebec and Hong
Kong.

March 2010 - Russell
receives visitors from Singapore: |
 |
Mr. Vijay Das, (Assistant Director) and
Ms. Chong Mien Ling (Executive Engineer) of Singapore P.U.B. visited Russell’s
head office in Edmonton on Saturday, March 27th. Our guests were brought to us
by Mr. Gordon Heinrich of Red Zone Robotics (Pittsburgh office) at the request
of Mr. Wing Chan of the Chun Wo Company (Hong Kong Office).
Singapore PUB is interested in condition assessment of their water and waste
water piping. Singapore has a population of 5 million in an area that is just
710 square km. As a result they have a massive infrastructure of buried assets
and knowing their condition is of high importance to them.
We have promised to meet them again at the Singapore International Water Week
June 28-July 2. (Photo attached shows Vijay in middle, Gordon on right and Ms
Chong on left) |

February 2010 - Russell is
awarded a NRC contract to develop TT technique for piping
inspection from outside the pipe: |
|
In 2009 Doctor Yuwu Yu and Hoan Nguyen
worked on prototypes of the new TT probe. This patent pending technique employs
exciter coils on one side of a pipe and a detector array on the other. The
device (photo) is manually scanned down a pipe to detect “Corrosion Under
Insulation” (CUI) on insulated pipes and internal pitting on bare pipes. |
|
|
|
The device connects to a standard 16
channel Ferroscope and produces colour contour plots of the scanned area,
showing thin spots. The NRC contract is to adapt this technique to allow use of
a Blanket of sensors which will produce a colour plot of the pipe under the
blanket. Blankets are anticipated to come in sizes similar to radiographic film,
and will be a stand-alone system, communicating directly to a remote or
connected lap-top computer. The three photos show the Flat Bottom Holes in the
pipe, the TT probe on the insulated pipe and the Ferroscope data from those
FBH’s. |

January 2010 - Veolia buys
HydraSnake™ Tool for water main inspection in France: |
|
The large French water company, Veolia,
became interested in HydroScope inspection techniques and approached Russell to
design/built a hybrid Tool to fit their 8” water mains. The HydraSnake Tool™
contains See Snake™ electronics plus line driver circuits that send a portion of
the data collected up a wireline to a host computer above ground. This allows
the operators to see that the Tool is working properly and to monitor the
quality of the data as it is being gathered. Thickness data from the water main
is also stored on board the Tool and is downloaded immediately after the
inspection. The Tool can inspect 1000m of pipeline in less than 4 hours,
providing exceptional value to Veolia. |
