One of the most common issues we address is Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI). If you’ve read our previous piece on CUI, you’ll know that it accounts for approximately 60% of pipe leaks. While visual inspections can help identify the first signs of corrosion hot spots, the need to remove and replace any insulation in place makes a costly endeavour. For facilities located in hot, humid, marine, or climates prone to significant temperature changes, the time required to perform regular visual inspections is highly impractical. To address this problem, Russell has created the Russell Bracelet Probe, used by industry leaders such as Enbridge to safely and efficiently identify CUI. Our Bracelet Probe offers fast, accurate results, saving clients time and money.

The Russell NDE Bracelet Probe (BP) is adaptable to any insulated pipe starting at 4” and contains sensitive detectors that cover a 10” wide scan path. The probe scans at a rate of 12'/min on both horizontal and vertical pipes. The BP data is fed real-time to a computer that displays and records the underlying condition of the pipe. This data can then be saved as 3D color-maps, strip charts and voltage planes which are used to size the CUI.
