Bridge Truss Inspection: Northern Alberta
BRIDGE TRUSS INSPECTION: NORTHERN ALBERTA
During the week of October 14, we completed a gusset plate inspection of a bridge over a Northern Alberta river.
The inspection involved the use of a “Snooper Truck” which provides access to the steel truss below the bridge deck.
The maintenance and inspection of bridges in Alberta falls under the governance of Alberta Transportation who regularly conduct inspections to ensure safe and reliable structures.
The work was managed by CH2MHill, http://www.ch2m.com/corporate/ a consulting engineering firm with offices across North America and international.
CH2MHill contracted the ultrasonic inspection work to Russell NDE Systems and Dave Russell took on the job. Bridge engineering technologist Owen Salava commented that the job was executed very smoothly and that we finished the work ahead of schedule and under budget.
The photos below shows Dave in full fall arrest gear ready to get into the Snooper truck on the bridge deck, and the shadow of the Snooper Truck Boom when deployed under the truss.
