China embraces Russell's In-Line Inspection Technologies

A Russell RFT crew, consisting of Dan Lingnau and Brian Knudson, recently completed the inspection of two 8" risers in the South China Sea.

The risers deliver crude oil to the Ping Hu and BJT Platforms which are around 300 km offshore Shanghai. The owner, CNOOC, required the risers to be inspected; however, standard MFL Tools were not economic for the job. Russell's engineers worked with COOEC to study the problems associated with getting the RFT Tool into and out of the risers without imposing any safety risk on the platform, and a novel solution was formulated. The job was completed on time and within budget.

A second job involved the inspection of four legs of a 24" oil pipeline for Conoco-Philips in offshore China. This time a MFL Tool was the right approach, so Russell teamed with PipeSurvey Inc. to complete the inspections.  Again, the inspections were completed on time and within budget.

Russell would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of personnel from SYT, PipeSurvey and COOEC, without whose expertise, we could not have completed these projects.
