Dan Lingnau, Applications expert with Russell NDE Systems, has completed the design, fabrication and commissioning of a 6" test loop which will allow pull-pig design improvement.

The test loop is comprised of a launcher, receiver, four 90 degree swept bends, clear acrylic straight pipe sections and epoxy-lined inserts. The loop allows the testing and visualization of pull pigs and cleaning pigs for use in epoxy lined pipelines (commonly used in salt water disposal applications in the oil patch). The test loop has already resulted in improved pull-pigs and cleaning pigs, which are used to remove excessive sealant at the lined-through inserts.
